Riot at notorious La Victoria prison claims 4 inmates

Santo Domingo.- Four inmates of the notorious La Victoria prison died during an early morning riot, the Justice Ministry reported Thursday.

The incident occurred in a cell at the prison, but the causes have not yet been revealed. The deceased, as yet unidentified, are Haitian nationals.

Prisons director Tomás Holguín, and Santo Domingo province prosecutor Olga Diná, arrived at the correctional facility to launch an investigation.

The historically overcrowded La Victoria prison in also known as a “cemetery of living men.”
