Truckers strike pots chicken production at risk: associations

Santo Domingo.- Chicken producers associations on Wed. said millions of birds could die as the result of the walkout by the truckers union Fenatrado, which virtually controls cargo transport in the entire country.

They said the losses in the millions will jeopardize the supply of meat right at the time when consumption of all kinds of food jumps in the country.

They add that they haven’t been able retrieve the feed from the ports since Monday, which hobbles farm production, “so if the truckers don’t give in, it would put chicken production in medium and small farms at risk.”
