USAID donates US$184.9M for public safety during 5 years

Santo Domingo.- US ambassador James W. Brewster and Economy minister Temistocles Montas on Tuesday signed an amendment to the agreement to improve public safety, for which the US Agency for International Development (USAID) will allocate US$184.9 million over the next five years.

The strategy focuses on crime prevention, improving the quality of education, climate change and the prevention and treatment of HIV / AIDS.

During the meeting in the National Palace that included USAID representative Alexandria L. Panehal, Brewster stressed the importance of the agreement.

Montas said Washington will increase its contribution to rach the development objective, including stronger crime prevention with US$6.6 million, and totaling US$35.0 million.
