UN announces fund to protect Dominican forests

Santo Domingo.- The Environment and Natural Resources Ministry on Thursday said Dominican Republic has been chosen partner country of the UN’s UN-REDD program, which will give it access to funding and other mechanisms to protect forests.
In a statement Environment minister Bautista Rojas said Dominican Republic’s status as program associate to spur that strategy will also take part in training, regional workshops and access to the global organization’s satellite images.
A missive from Geneva by UN Program Secretariat Mario Boccucci, to Rojas contains the official confirmation as UN-REDD program partner country.
