Bill creates regulator for rent-a-cop companies

Santo Domingo.- The Senate Wednesday night approved in two roll calls the bill which creates the Private Security Institute, to oversee the hundreds of rent-a-cop companies in Dominican Republic..

The legislation stipulates an eight hour limit of service for security guards and bans companies from hiring of dishonorably discharged soldiers and police agents.

“Guards should only work eight hours and a pension and retirement system will be created, as well as a school for members of companies previously trained as guards,” says the legislation authored by Elias Piña province senator Adriano Sanchez.
