Consumer protection: Price on 11 staples jump in first half

Santo Domingo.- The consumer protection agency ProConsumidor on Tuesday said the price of 9 staple products fell and 11 rose from May 28 to June 30, according to its Costs and Price monitoring Dept.

It said prices on 49% of the staples were unchanged.

The agency said prices the eleven products climbed 28% whereas those which fell posted a 23% decline during the first sixth months.

Fell

Soybean oil, oats, boneless cod, lean pork, pinto beans, eggs, Milex milk and white yams fell in price.

Rose

Imported garlic, smoked pork, red onions, red beans, fresh chicken, tomato paste, bananas, Sosua yellow cheese, green bananas and sardines rose in price.
