Pay US$800.0M or face blackouts: Dominican power companies

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Electricity IndustryAssociation (ADIE) president Marcos Cochón warned Sunday that “financial blackouts”could return nationwide if the government fails to pay the US$800.0 million owedto the power companies.
He said if the banks decide to curtail their credit lineson a strictly financial situation the energy sector won’t have enough funds tocontinue normal operations
Interviewed by Hector Herrera on Telesistema Channel 11,Cochónnoted that an important decision such as giving financial blackouts, has neverbeen in the mind of the power companies, adding that they also incur in debtsto produce electricity.
