World Bank US$50.0M loan to boost quality education

Santo Domingo.- The WorldBank loaned the Finance Ministry US$50.0million to support the National Education Pact, staring a with disbursement of US$10.0 million this year.

Finance ministerSimon Lizardo, who signed the contract on Monday with World Bank Residentrepresentative Benjamin McDonald, thanked the multilateral organization for itssupport to bolster investment through the loan.

Lizard said the fundswill “help stimulate Dominican Government policy related to the National DevelopmentStrategy to benefit a relevant niche for the country’s progress, such as theeducation, and specifically, the quality of teaching.”

He stressed the WorldBank´s importance as a collaborating partner on the country’s commitment to theUN´s Millennium Development Goals.
