Expected rains could bring relief to parched dams

Santo Domingo.- The water levels of dams continue to fall acrossthe country, except Valdesia (south) which rose 16 centimeters, although therainfall forecast for the weekend and until Tuesday could improve thesituation.

The statement emerged in a meeting Wednesday of theNational Water Observatory, which said a stationary front is expected to brink scatteredto moderate showers starting Saturday, and would by Monday raise the levels as high as 45 mm at Tavera, Monción, Sabaneta, Rincón andHatillo, the country’s biggest dams

In the meeting, dams and canals agency (INDRHI) deputydirector Raymundo Ramirez said the rains will bring much relief to the country,but warned that despite the good news, “the plan that rations water to irrigatefarms has been successful and will be maintained.”
