Cement makers bask in steady growth, rising demand

Santo Domingo.- Cement Producers Association (Adocem) presidentGabriel Ballestas on Friday said even with the construction sector’s growth andhigh cement demand the industry can supply the country for five years withneither making new investments nor jeopardizing its exports.

"What we have in installed capacity today gives us, let’ssay, the peace of mind that can absorb the significant growth occurring in thecountry in the next five or six years without any problems and the industry isprepared, as it has been doing in the has happened, to invest not only in thelatest technology, but to increase production at the time required,” he said.

“It’s a fact that we’re seeing a very interesting dynamic inthe east region of the country with the resumption of construction projects forthe tourism sector,” the business leader said, interviewed by the Diario Libre mediagroup.

Ballestas, accompanied by Adocem consultant Francesco Cardiand executive director Julissa Báez, added that this dynamism in construction isn’tlimited to just the area of lodging, but also in new malls and road infrastructure.
