Canada marks 150th with pledge to expand investments

Santo Domingo.- Canada on Wed. celebrated its 150th anniversary, with a cocktail in the Jaragua Hotel, attended by over 10 guests from the private sector,  the government, diplomats and the media

In the keynote speech, Canada ambassador Steve Coté stressed his country’s strong ties with the Dominican Republic and reaffirmed Ottawa’s growing interest in expanding cooperation and investment. “We expect that this collaboration, based on trust and mutual respect, guaranteed by the our investors’ reputation, can move on to the next phase and make these projects can reach conclusion.”

The Canadian envoy’s statement comes just one week after a group of business leaders from his country paid a visit to the beach at Bahía de las Aguilas headed by president Danilo Medina, where they revealed Canada-based group, Sunwing’s interest in investment.

Prior to a fireworks display at Jargua’s pool area, Coté thanked the Canadian companies operating in Dominican Republic, especially in the mining sector, especially Barrick Gold and GoldQuest Corp.
