Santo Domingo.-  The government will help more than 6,000 agro producers affected by the floods from  hurricanes Irma and Maria, and revised its damage figure from 616 hectares of farmlands to 39,396.

After a meeting in the National Palace with president Danilo Medina, Agriculture minister Ángel Estévez said the government will bring “real and effective solutions” to small, medium and large producers affected by the storms. “A total of 39,000 hectares of farmlands were affected nationwide, of which 13, 400 hectares sustained major damages, which means that of the national production area, only 9% was directly impacted.”

The meeting was attended by other officials and Dominican Agribusiness Board (JAD) president Osmar Benítez, who represented the private sector.
