Santo Domingo.- The tax office (DGII) reminds vehicle owners that they have less than two weeks left to renew their road tax sticker known as “marbete” without incurring a penalty payment.

The agency said that the deadline for renewals without the RD$1,000 surcharge expires on Monday, January 8th .

So far, only 640,272 vehicle owners have renewed their road tax, approximately 50% of the total number of vehicular units on the country’s roads, which is 1,279,845.

The DGII is encouraging contributors to renew in time, and reminded drivers that there are 566 branches in 28 financial entities for a total of 1,543 payment points in banks, savings and loans associations and cooperatives where vehicle owners can renew their marbete sticker.

Vehicles more than five years old (up till 2012) are charged RD$1,500, while vehicles less than five years old (since 2013) will pay RD$3,000.
