Govt. launches Japanese pears project in central highlands

Constanza, Dominican Republic.- Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD) director Emilio Toribio on Tues. announced the start of planting of Japanese pears in a pilot project located in a village in Constanza.

During ribbon-cutting for the project , the official said he expects “excellent results” and will take it to other areas of the country.

“This project is an initiative of the authorities of the city of Matsudo, Japan, a proposal made during a visit I made to that city in 2016.”

Toribio said a delegation of specialists in harvesting pears went to the site, and determined that the climate, both in Constanza and Jarabacoa, are suitable for the crop.
