Tenders to search for oil, natural gas start ‘this quarter’

Santo Domingo.- Energy and Mines minister Antonio Isa Conde on Wed. announced that this quarter will begin the call for tenders to explore for oil and natural gas in Azua, Bahía de Ocoa and in San Pedro de Macorís basin, to determine if it’s commercially exploitable.

He said over 30,000 kilometers of seismic lines have already been mapped and that the agency has recommendations of what will be done in each case.

He said Azua is one of the most important areas to be tendered, as well as the San Pedro de Macoris basin, which despite being the most uncomfortable is the one with the highest potential and Ocoa Bay as well.

“We have determined that there are six basins that have hydrocarbons, gas and oil, what we have to define is whether they are exploitable. There are even some that are emanating,” Isa said in a statement.
