Hardware prices up, sales down; could hobble construction

Santo Domingo.- Hardware Stores Association (Asodefe) president Arcenio García, on Mon. said the prices of hardware products have climbed considerably, and sales have plummeted 25%, which he affirms could hobble construction projects.

He acknowledged the country’s construction boom, but noted that “the hardware sector’s situation was not very favorable in the last year.”

He said the rains from November 2017 to January 2018 and the rising prices of rebar as high as 19% could’ve led to falling sales

In a statement, Garcia said aggregate prices rose 15% due to the increase in fuels and cement has been climbing 10%. “Despite the increases, the construction dynamics have continued, but lower than in previous years.”
