Santo Domingo.- The Chamber of Deputies on Wed. approved a US$150.0 million loan from the International Reconstruction and Development Bank (IBRD), “to respond to disasters caused by natural phenomena.”

Under the opposition’s scathing critique over the Government’s accumulating debts, the initiative had the support of the lower Chamber’s Finance Commission.

Opposition PRM party deputy, Frank Paulino, slammed the Government’s “feast of loans” and warned about the need to reduce the debt exceeding US$40.0 billion. “Already the excuses are exhausted, just in case something happens you have to look to borrow money.”
