Expert proposes Maritime Free Trade Hub in the NW

Santo Domingo.-  Scientist and business consultant, Diógenes Aybar on Thurs. urged the government to materialize Dominican Republic’s Strategic Logistic Plan (Marítime Hub of Manzanillo), which promotes the development of an International Free Trade and Services Area at Montecristi (northwest).

Aybar said that the initiative in “embryonic stage” has a great potential for attracting foreign investment that would affect the progress of the depressed border area.

Quoted by acento.com.do, the expert suggested a first round of negotiations with potential Chinese investors and senior government officials so that, in principle, those funds are earmarked “to sign a concession contract to develop and manage the Montecristi International Free Trade and Services Area.”

The specialist proposes the “Caribbean Maritime Logistics Hub” to the State and to national and foreign investors, especially Chinese.
