Outspoken business leader hints at embracing politics

Santo Domingo.- Former Herrera Industries Association (ANEIH) president Antonio Taveras on Thurs. announced that he’ll confront and “say no” to corrupt politicians and small elites that from the State and the private sector seek to “eat Dominican Republic to pieces.”

He said from now on he’ll actively and publicly exercise his role as a citizen, to defend the country from leaders who deceive, steal and lie to the Dominican population.

“It is time to say no to dishonest officials who abuse and cheat, to say yes to a new country, with transparent and efficient institutions. It’s time to say no to so much arrogance, so much nepotism and so much impunity, to say yes to the enforcement of the law and the sanction for wrongdoing. That is the profound and far-reaching stage that begins in my life today,” Taveras said during the induction of the new ANEIH board.

“In me you will continue to have, from a new citizen role, to a collaborator, a friend, a brother, decided, frontal and without fear” said the outspoken business leader.

He said his decision to take the public stage to exercise an active citizenship and defense of the common good emerged after knowing closely the causes of the pressing problems that impact 98% of the Dominican business fabric, “to those honest men and women who wake up every day to produce, to create and share wealth.”
