Customs lifts tax on supplements over confusion

Santo Domingo.- The confusion over the ITBIS (VAT) tax levied on supplements in tablets, capsules or pills, has prompted the Customs Directorate to suspend the measure for now and called on the related sectors to discuss the issue

Customs said the measure does not include medicines though given the sensitivity of the products involved, “we understands the concern created in a part of the population, so we decided to halt its application, open a space for dialogue to listen to the parties and explain the scope and limitations of the institutional decision.”

In a statement Customs affirmed that it already contacted the various associations as well as the representatives of the different brands of vitamins and natural products, to attend a meeting next week.
