New York State program benefits thousands of Dominican immigrants

Santo Domingo.- Thousands of Dominican immigrants living in New York will benefit from the program that will be enacted by governor, Andrew Cuomo, which will offer free legal and essential services through 100 consulates and religious institutions starting at in the Dominican Consulate.

Dominican general consul in New York, Carlos Castillo, hailed the program “Defense of Freedom” which will provide free legal services, immigration clinics and seminars on the rights of vulnerable immigrants in need of updating their status migratory or could not access them due to their economic conditions.

Castillo said the project will be initiated by Cuomo, along with the North Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights (Nmcir), aimed at offering free legal and essential services and whose executive director is the Dominican lawyer Angela Fernández.
