Japanese Yazaki Corporation plans $90 Million investment in Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader welcomed a delegation from the Japanese company Yazaki Corporation to discuss the planned $90 million investment in constructing a new production plant in Santiago de los Caballeros. This new facility is expected to create over 1,500 jobs in its initial phase.

The meeting, facilitated by the Minister of Industry, Commerce, and MSMEs, Víctor Bisonó, included representatives from Yazaki Corporation, led by Kenichi Fujisawa, the President and CEO of Yazaki for North America. Other attendees included Itaru Motobayashi, Executive Vice President; Manish Mehta, Vice President of Corporate Planning and Government Affairs; Joe Carrera and Tony Sánchez, special advisors to the company, and the Japanese ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Takagi Masahiro.

Yazaki Corporation, a prominent global automotive company with nearly a century of experience, specializes in manufacturing harnesses and other automotive parts for leading brands in the United States and worldwide. The company will operate under the free zone regime in the Dominican Republic, focusing on the production of electrical branches and other components.

The initial phase of the plant will be situated in the Pisano free zone in Santiago de los Caballeros, covering 12,000 square meters with the potential for expansion to 100,000 square meters. This development is expected to generate approximately 1,500 jobs, encompassing both operational and administrative roles.

Mr. Fujisawa highlighted Yazaki’s role in producing components for various automobile manufacturers in the United States, with plans to export these specific products. He expressed gratitude to the Dominican government for its support.

Minister Bisonó, in his capacity, expressed satisfaction with Yazaki’s decision to invest in the Dominican Republic, emphasizing the confidence demonstrated by the private sector in the country’s free zone regime.

President Abinader concluded the meeting by expressing his support for ensuring the success of Yazaki’s investment. He underscored that this investment signifies the confidence that foreign investors have in the Dominican Republic.
