Deputy proposes double salaries and incentives to attract doctors to border hospitals
Santo Domingo.- Doctor and deputy Juan Bolívar Cuevas of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) introduced a bill aiming to attract specialized doctors to work in the border regions of the Dominican Republic. The proposed legislation would provide substantial incentives to encourage medical specialists, including pediatricians, gynecologists, and surgeons, to offer their services in hospitals located in the southern border provinces.
Under the proposed bill, these specialists would receive double salaries, sign a five-year contract, and benefit from additional incentives, such as housing and vehicle support. Cuevas believes these measures will make working in underserved border areas more appealing to highly trained medical professionals.
Cuevas announced the initiative during a press interaction at the National Congress, expressing that these incentives are vital for addressing the healthcare needs of border communities, where medical resources are often limited.
Timely payment of double salaries for doctors is questionable due the government’s poor track record of prompt payments for anything.
