Grass-roots education push again heads to Dominican Republic’s Palace
SANTO DOMINGO. – The Coalition for a Dignified Education on Tuesday made a call for supporters to gather in front of the National Palace at 4 p.m. today, to continue their demand to allocate 4% of the GDP to the Education sector.
The Coalition, which has snowballed in just three months, called on all supporters of the months-long campaign to take umbrellas, garments or any other yellow item to the rally, to get the attention of the authorities.
Ex Teachers Union president Maria Rosa Cabrera said they won’t waver in their struggle and every day four they will stage rallies until their demand is met.
The groups in the Coalition decided to call 2011 "the year of the yellow fight for a dignified education," and warn that their efforts will continue to grow in all towns and provinces as the springboard for the population’s voice to demand more and better education.
