Post-holiday border health controls stepped up

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Health hasincreased its health control measures along the border with Haiti with thorough medicalchecks for legal Haitian workers returning to the DR after the Christmas andNew Year holidays.

These measures are aimed at preventing thespread of cholera in the Dominican Republic.

Teams of epidemiologists and health workersare conducting medical examinations on Haitian workers and filling in forms to ensure healthcontrols in the area. Mobile health units supplied with drinking water, chlorine and soap have also been installed in allthe border provinces.

The latest official figures establish 148 confirmed cases of cholera inthe Dominican Republic, four of which were ‘imported’ from Haiti.
