A 3.6 tremor shakes eastern Dominican Republic

SANTO DOMINGO. – A 3.6 magnitude tremor was felt Tuesday morning in eastern Altagracia Province, with no reports of injuries or damages so far.

Although minor quakes are common in that part of the country, a resident of the provincial capital Higuey contacted by phone said the tremor wasn’t felt in the city.

Meanwhile the Santo Domingo State University (UASD) Seismology Institute reports that quake took place in Saona Island(southeast).

Seismology Institute director Eugene Polanco said the tremor occurred at 4:45 a.m., 137 kilometers in depth, calling it “routine.”
