The country defends treatment of Haitian descendants today

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic will attend a hearing today in the Inter-American the Human Rights Commission, where activist Sonia Pierre and several civil organizations accused the government of repealing the citizenship of 417 descendants of undocumented Haitian immigrants.

For the hearing from 10 to 11am in the Organization of American States (OAS), in Washington, D.C., the ambassadors to the OAS, Roberto Saladín, and to the U.S. Aníbal De Castro, and Immigration Agency director Jose Ricardo Taveras will defend the country.

Taveras, quoted by news source eldia.com.do, said he’s confident that the case will not be sent to the Inter-American Human Rights Court, in Costa Rica.
