Fernandez pledges fast track for Police reform

SANTO DOMINGO. – President Leonel Fernandez pledged Wednesday to expedite Congress’s approval of the amendment to the Statutory Law of Dominican Republic’s National Police, a measure announced after meeting for around two hours with Police chief Jose Polanco.

Presidency press director Rafael Núñez said measures will be applied to make the Police more preventive.

During the meeting Polanco handed a report to Fernandez which shows an 80% drop in crimes, after heightened patrols nationwide in the last few days.

Fernandez sent to Congress, via the Senate, the bill to draft the "National Police Statutory Law" on June 15.
