Strong Atlantic surf triggers warning for boats, swimmers

SANTO DOMINGO. – The National Meteorology Office –Onamet- forecast Monday dangerous swells along the northern shores from a low pressure system over North Atlantic waters, for which small craft must remain in port.

It advises residents in low lying zones throughout the North and Northeast coast to be on the lookout for high surges on shore which could flood areas inland, and cautions against swimming in those areas’ beaches.

Onamet said the prevailing east-northeast wind and an approaching trough will bring scattered showers with thunderstorms today, mostly to the north, northeast and south-east regions and the Central Mountains, adding that night temperatures will continue mild.
