Rich deputy’s proposed bill riles the Anticorruption chief

Santo Domingo.- The director of the Justice Ministry’s Anticorruption Department (DPCA), , revealed that deputy Cristóbal Castillo filed a financial statement of more RD$167 million in assets, of which RD$43 million are in a Central Bank cash account.

Hotoniel Bonilla’s statement comes in the wake of Castillo’s initiative for legislation that would eliminate the DPCA, but affirmed he doesn’t know the opposition PRD party legislator’s proposal, details or basis.

The DPCA director said the creation of “populist” norms doesn’t help improve the country’s institutionalism, and invited Castillo to review the legislation on financial statements, which he said has been pending for a year in the Chamber of Deputies. “That’s to say that if we’re going to fight corruption, let’s begin there.”
