Agents seize 17 kilos of cocaine at Las Americas airport

Santo Domingo.– The Antinarcotics Agency (DNCD) last night seized 17 kilos of cocaine on board of an aircraft belonging to a private courier company before taking off for Puerto Rico from Las Americas International Airport (AILA).

According to the report, five people are under arrest, including the pilot and two members of the the Airport Security Corp (CESA).

The CESA agents used a Canine Unit vehicle to take the drug into the aircraft and delivered it to two employees of a service company in the ramp area to put it in one of the plane’s compartments.

The aircraft belongs to the company Trams but it’s been rented by DHL, the DNCD spokesman Roberto Lebrón said. Three of the men arrested were identified as Leandro Soto Mendez, Victor Nunez Celedonio and Gilberto Torres Felix Corchado. The latter is the pilot of the N801FL airplane, which is retained in the terminal.
