Ex Cincinnati star pitcher faces more questions into journalist’s murder

Santo Domingo.- The Justice Ministry’s Anti-laundering today subpoenaed ex Cincinnati Reds star pitcher Jose Rijo to appear for questioning on the 12th, into his alleged business dealings with the fugitive Avelino Castro, wanted in the August murder the journalist Jose Silvestre.

Unit director German Villalona said Rijo must appear for questioning in the old courthouse in the Centro de los Heroes at 9am. The ex Major leaguer had already been subjected to interrogation during several hours, just hours after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

In that occasion, Rijo said after interrogation that he was asked to return with the documents explaining his connection with the fugitive.

The former player said he can justify the origin of his wealth, adding that he didn’t know the journalist, whose body was found on a country road near the city of La Romana (east).
