Front brings low temperatures to mountains, high waves in the Atlantic

Santo Domingo.- Temperatures fell to a chilly 8 C° (46 °F) in areas of the Central Mountains Tuesday night, the National Meteorology Office (Onamet) reported Wednesday, and forecasts even lower readings from a frontal system approaching the country.

It said the rains are expected to increase in all parts of the country, except the Southwest. “The conditions that precede this frontal system are going to remain, causing significant rains in the country’s North and Northeast on Thursday and Friday.”

Onamet said the surge along the Atlantic coast with rapidly concurrent waves as high as 11 feet continue to pose a risk to small craft, which should remain in port, while residents of low lying coastal are warned to be on the lookout for possible flooding.

It also cautions swimmers or rip currents in all North coast beaches.
