“Devil’s acid” attack gets unprecedented 30 years in prison
Santo Domingo. – Mayra Ortega will have to serve the maximum sentence of 30 years in prison, after being found guilty of splashing “devil’s acid” on Jennifer Leyba Linares on August 30, 2009, causing severe burns to 85% of her body.
The unprecedented sentence handed down by the 3rd Collegiate Court judges comes at the request of the National District Office of the Prosecutor, represented by Assistant DA Demetrio Ramirez, of the Crimes against Persons Investigations Department.
The prosecutor narrated the chilling scene when Ortega showed up at a colmado located in Benito Gonzalez St., in the sector San Carlos, where she confronted Leyba and hurled the liquid, a mix of drain cleaner and cement used to join PVC pipes.
