Months-old flap ends; 1st ever presidential candidates’ debate looms

SANTO DOMINGO.- Several months of griping by the opposition PRD party on the designation of Franklin Frias as head of the Central Electoral Board’s (JCE) Informatics center came to an Monday when the president of the ruling PLD agreed to urge the entity to create a “collegiate informatics managementm,” and paves the way for a debate between the two parties’ presidential candidates.

President and head of the PLD Leonel Fernandez and his PRD par Miguel Vargas signed the pact, with Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriquez as a witness, which seeks forming the new entity with four people of "recognized capacity in the mater, without any political bond and ethically irreproachable."

Meanwhile the young business leaders grouped in ANJE announced the country’s first ever debate between candidates to the Presidency, in this occasion Danilo Medina of the PLD, and Hipólito Mejía of the PRD, slated for April.

ANJE president Manuel Cabral said they expect Mejia’s confirmation for the debate, already accepted by Medina, who said he’ll take part if it’s “well staged, with serious, clear rules, and without babblings.”
