Joint chase by Dominican, U.S. agencies nets 350 pounds of cocaine

Santo Domingo.- The United States Coast Guard ad Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the Dominican Air Force and the Navy

168 packages of cocaine headed to Puerto Rico, local media report.

In addition to the cocaine that weighed 350 pounds, the U.S. authorities also seized a boat, after a chase on the high seas by CBP Dash-8 airplanes which spotted two men on board the craft Saturday morning, headed to Puerto Rico.

Once they noticed they had been spotted, the men started throwing the drug overboard. The CBP aircrew then contacted the Coast Guard, which in turn notified the Dominican authorities that the boat entered Dominican waters.

A FAD Super Tucano airplane and a MDG patrol boat, as well as the Coastal Guard vessel joined the chase, but the men managed to escape near the beach Uvero Alto, eastern Altagracia province.
