Hurt a woman, go to jail, top Prosecutor tells men

Santo Domingo. – Justice minister Radhames Jimenez on Wednesday warned that the Government’s zero tolerance towards violence against woman will continue, by seeking imprisonment for men who attack women, even if the victims desist.

He urged women to contribute with justice by denouncing the aggressions, even if they prefer to take them to his very office, to immediately order an investigation and seek punishment.

In his message to mark International Women’s Day, Jimenez said he has instructed prosecutors to be drastic in those cases and continue the proceedings even if the mistreatment charges are dropped.

The official also hailed the Dominican woman’s qualities, which he called “countless,” when successfully merging their roles as mothers and wives, while holding outstanding posts in the public as well as the private sector.
