The Cardinal urges Congress to approve law on Political Parties

Santo Domingo. – Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez yesterday urged the approval of the Law on Political Parties pending in Congress for more than one decade, because in his view that legislation would contribute to control the length of the political campaign and the use of taxpayers money during the electoral process.

He said the excessive use of funds “is always an evil. Our campaigns are exaggeratedly long. I would be in favor of a shorter campaign.”

Lopez said it would be good regulate future electoral campaigns, but conditional “to a Law of Parties which has been in Congress for a long time, to see if they’ve decided to debate it.”

The prelate spoke after a mass marking the 12th anniversary of the Volunteer Service Foundation in the medical center, Cedimat.
