The DA: I’ll work for longer jail terms for femicides

Santo Domingo.- National District prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso on Monday said she favors stiffer jail terms increase of the pains for femicide convicts and revealed that she’ll work to amend the law in that regard.

So far this year, 52 women have lost their life at the hands of their current or ex partners, and reason behind the Prosecutor’s position, but noted that more important than that is a heightened effort to prevent the crime.

“There are two basic questions regarding femicides, one is prevention which has been traditionally worked on, and another is to strengthen the prosecution and the persecution, which the amended or new legislation must include,” she said.

The official’s statements come one day after Juana Galvez 27 became the most recent femicide, murdered by her ex in the sprawling barrio Los Guaricanos.
