“Obama came from Africa” flub spurs a Senate apology

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s Senate yesterday apologized to U.S. president Barack Obama, for ex president Hipólito Mejía’s remarks which allegedly offend his African descent, calling it “an insulting and disrespectful insult.”

The senators noted the excellent relations between Washington and Santo Domingo, centered on the more than one million Dominicans who live in the U.S.

Mejia, the opposition PRD party presidential candidate, in a recent campaign sweep in the U.S. said “Obama came from Africa, but we with a little more grace can also do great things here.” (in the U.S.).
