Canada nixes ballot for Dominican deputies abroad

New York.- Canada’s Government rejected Dominican Republic’s election for deputies abroad, because its laws ban foreigners using it’s territory as electoral districts, Electoral Board (JCE) president Roberto Rosario revealed Sunday.

”We regret the Canadian Government’s decision because Dominican residents in that country will not be able to participate in the May 20 election for overseas deputies,” the official said.

The JCE had originally designated Toronto and Montreal as the First Electoral District, but in a statement Ottawa told the Dominican Government that it would only allow the presidential ballot to be cast there.
