Exotic peninsula mobilizes to protect its enchantments

Santo Domingo.- Representative of Samaná province (northeast) institutions yesterday pledged to protect their environment, and signed an agreement with the authorities to advance that cause.

The pact signed with Environment minister Ernesto Reyna includes a campaign to educate and promote citizen participation to protect and conserve rivers, streams and gorges; provide information on sustainable water use, reforest ravaged areas, and prosecute arsonists who unleash wildfires.

The communities will also work to improve waste management, while the authorities will provide trash cans and build a sanitary landfill and fund an anti-din campaign and promote sustainable fishing and tourism practices, and to observe the humpbacked whales.

And to guarantee follow-up to the pact and the Provincial Environmental Agenda, Samana’s key personalities formed the Provincial Environmental Council.
