Number of cholera cases declines in Tamboril

Santo Domingo.– Of the 16 confirmed deaths from cholera until April 14 this year in the Dominican Republic, four are linked to the outbreak that still remains in the Tamboril municipality, in Santiago.

According to the latest bulletin by Public Health authorities, 206 suspected cases were reported until the middle of the month, of which 53 were under laboratory investigation with a positivity of 13% and four deaths.

Among the latest cases reported, including deaths, 159 are residents in Canca La Piedra, El Arenaso, Los Polanco and Tamboril downtown.

Cholera has declined considerably in Tamboril, said regional epidemiologist Dr. Felix Martinez, who confirmed that at present there are only eight patients with the virus at the Municipal Hospital.
