Opposition party wants access to “crude” poll returns

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s major opposition party (PRD) on Thursday asked the Central Electoral Board (JCE) to send them the results of the May 20 election “without electronic manipulation.”

PRD technical delegate Roberto Arias and political delegate Salvador Ramos their party requested that the JCE sent them the results without passing them through the affidavit validation system (Intelligent Character Recognition-ICR) which has been implemented.

They asked the Electoral Board to send the “crude” poll results simultaneously to the parties, as they arrive at the JCE’s informatics center. The request comes in the heels of last Sunday’s test run by the JCE to transmit the results, but during which the PRD sustained a delay of around 20 minutes.

Referring to the proposal JCE president Roberto Rosario said the Plenary will address the resolution the 3pm tomorrow Friday prior to issuing its position.

Nonetheless the official said the inconvenience wasn’t the Board’s fault and affected only the PRD, from interruption he said occurred in that party’s information reception.
