Crime, few jobs top Dominicans’ fears, Diario Libre poll

Santo Domingo.- 49 percent of Dominicans say the country isn’t headed in the right direction.

For many rising crime and unemployment are the main reasons for their dissatisfaction.

But crime is their main concern, climbing four points to 55 percent since the last Greenberg survey published by newspaper Diario Libre at the beginning of March, while worries of unemployment have jumped seven points to 45 percent.

Gender also plays a role in that perception: Women are more concerned with crime, with 57 percent stating it as the main concern, three percentage points higher than the beginning of March), while the men are more focused on unemployment, or 10 points higher to 49 percent.
