Legislators get back to work

SantoDomingo.- After a long break for election campaigning, Senators got back to work and approvedseveral bills on Wednesday, including the creation of the National HealthService (SNS) which aims to put a Single Network of integrated health servicesinto operation.

Thesenators also approved in a first reading the Public Office Integrity bill, aswell as the bill that creates the National Statistical System.

They also approvedthe resolution that requests the Executive Branch to build a new modelpenitentiary center in El Seibo, and a resolution through which theChamber of Deputies reaffirms its commitment to promoting and disseminatingdemocratic values for the purpose of celebrating International Democracy Day.

The Senators approved aseries of initiatives including a bill that establishes the procedure forauthorizing Presidential Pardons and a bill designating September 8thas National Literacy Day, and the naming of schools and other installationsafter specific figures. They also approvedseveral sales contracts between the State and private entities.
