Citizens asked to donate blood, reduce 200,000 pint deficit

Santo Domingo.- Deputy Health minister Nelson Rodriguez today called on the citizens to join the blood donation campaign to reduce the annual deficit of 200,000 pints.

He said though Dominican Republic needs 300,000 pints of blood each year, it has only 100,000.

The official, speaking in a news conference to mark of World Blood Donor in the Santo Domingo State University UASD, said the deficit is especially noted in the negative blood types, which are harder to obtain since it’s found in fewer people.

He also announced the construction of a blood bank next to the Socorro Santos Respiratory Diseases Hospital, in the sector La Fe, with Inter American Development Bank (IDB) funds, equipped with modern technology.
