Honduras ex president recovers, flies home

Santo Domingo.- Former Honduras president Manuel Zelaya left today Dominican Republic’s capital Sunday after recovering from surgery for a fractured femur early May, Efe reports citing his daughter Xiomara.

Zelaya returned to his country where he’ll continue therapy, his daughter said, adding that her father uses a cane to walk short distances and a wheelchair.

She said the former president will initiate meetings with the political commission of the Freedom Party (Libre) tomorrow, ahead of the planned launch of the presidential candidacy of his wife, Xiomara Castro, officially scheduled for July 1.

The ex president, 59, fractured his femur on May 4, slipping in the home of his daughter, who is studying in Santo Domingo, and was hospitalized in the Cedimat Medical Center, in Santo Domingo, from where he was released on June 15.
