Dominican Rep. wants no part of notorious playboy’s legacy

Santo Domingo.- Bowing to pressure from op-ed writers in several major newspapers, the Tourism Ministry announced a ban on the use of the name Porfirio Rubirosa to promote Dominican Republic as a tourism destination.

Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia made the announcement in the Senate on Tuesday.

The measure comes after the conclusion of an international polo tournament named after the notorious playboy and "gigolo" roiled society.

Among Rubirosa’s “conquests” figure Zsa Zsa Gabor, Kim Novak and others, during the regime of the dictator Rafael Trujillo.
