Opposition party row heads to the labyrinth of the courts

Santo Domingo.- The opposition PRD party’s infighting among factions led by Miguel Vargas and Hipolito Mejia continues as the arena shifts to the Constitutional Court, where the latter has submitted a petition to review the ruling handed down by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE)

Mejia’s group seeks to annul all parts of the ruling, claiming the TSE overstepped its jurisdiction when it ruled on an internal affair of the PRD.

It also claims the TSE violated its right to due process was, “incurring usurpation of powers and an erroneous assessment of constitutional law.”

Vargas’ lawyers meanwhile petitioned the Constitutional Court to reject the appeal and uphold all parts of the TSE’s rulings.
